Jeremiah might have expected good things to happen when he did what God told him to do. After being beaten and thrown in jail, abandoned and forsaken by friends he became angry at God and decided to not do what he was called to do. Things got worse- "his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones"(vs.9). Yet Jeremiah committed his cause to the Lord and it sustained him. Jesus understood what Jeremiah was talking about. We can choose to not run away, to help bear each others burdens, to encourage and to be encouraged by relying on His strength.
